I am not sure what is going on but from my point of view moore's law is in trouble.
For those of you not up to date on what Moore's law is it is the statement that every 18 months computers double in speed.
With the Intel X86 this has mostly been the case and if you follow what intel has been putting out you would think this true but.. Is it.
Last year I purchased and overclocked (not for long) a pentium 2.6 ghz. computer. I overclocked it to the max at about 3.9 Ghz.
Now you can buy Pentium 3.9 Ghz chips but you can't over clock them, not one bit they are already maxed out to the max.
It's been over a year and there has been no improvement in speed.
Intel recently introduced a new chip and it's another 3.9 no 4.0 or higher just 3.9 and you can't over clock it.
This is a null improvement in a year. Sorry but it seems for now Moore's law is dead.
Anyone who can find a faster chip please tell me. (I just checked Intel's site, they have no faster chips.)

Our number grows
We are an increasing population us borg.
Not only are the students of Steve Man (http://eyetap.org) actively pushing the bounds of borgdom forward but the rest of us are looking again at our past and saying does that class of person actually qualify as borg?
Does a person who has a pacemaker classify as borg? They are dependant on technology for their every heart beat. How about people with hearing aids?
I have tens (as well as the computers and screens and internet connectivity 24/7) and I rely on all of it for my quality of life.
Quality of life, quality of work, speed of access to information, enhanced memory; they all are valid reasons for being borg (and so is just cause it's cooooolllllll.)

Hackfest 2k5-1
I have decided to change the way hackfest works this year with a few changes.
People have complained that I am to elitist and do not let anyone attend. So there will be invitations going out to the usual suspects but as well the first 25 people who can find hackfest will be allowed submit for 2k5-2. The top five from there get to come to the fest, either physically (please bring some network gear to help set up, we do have a budget and the homestead is not that large) or virtually by VPN/web cam.
So 2k5-1 is find the site, login and request an invite. The first twentyfive get to continue, more may be added later depending on demand.
This is the first step to getting there. Once you can prove you can find a site and hack the login then you have to prove your programming prowess. No wussy languages allowed, we don't care what platform but prefer Linux. That is hackfest 2k5-2; more on it later once we have our 25 entrants.
